Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis water filtration is the most reliable and thorough method of removing most contaminants from a water supply. From a water sample, White Swan Services can determine the best method of treating your water.

Reverse osmosis is the process of passing the water through a high efficiency semipermeable membrane under pressure and is capable of removing contaminants as small as 0.1 nonometres (0.1 micron)

UV Sterilization

UV sterilisation is commonly used to kill bacteria and pathogens present in the water supply.

It is an efficient, simple and economical form of micro-organism control and can be installed in almost all applications. UV radiation in the form of Ultra Violet light with a short wavelength is harmful to micro-organisms by its effectiveness in breaking down the nucleic acids in the organisms so that their DNA is disrupted. This removes their ability to reproduce and therefore kills them.

UV sterilsation is only effective if the water source is clear and the light can effectively reach the micro-organism, so sometimes an effective pre-treatment of the water is required

Water Softeners

Water softeners utilise ion exchange to reduce calcium and magnesium ions in the water supply and replace them with sodium ions, therefore producing “soft” water. Hard water leads to calcium scale build-up in appliances such as hot water cylinders and boilers, which reduces the life span and efficiency of the equipment.

There is some emerging medical evidence that softer water can have a positive impact on some skin conditions such as eczema, and enhances the effectiveness of soaps and shampoo’s.
